The U.S. said on Sunday it targeted Iranian forces that struck Jordan last week, an attack by Iran that left two American service members dead and one missing.<\/p>\n

Kuwait reported launching defenses against another wave of Iranian projectiles overnight.<\/p>\n

The developments over the weekend further jeopardized last month’s fragile truce between the two sides, potentially raising fresh concerns over oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

U.S. Central Command said it completed an eighth straight night of strikes against Iranian targets.<\/p>\n

“CENTCOM forces successfully hit Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites to continue degrading Iranian military capabilities,” it said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

“American military assets also targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that launched attacks against U.S. service members in Jordan on July 17,” it added.<\/p>\n

U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0ordered military forces to launch new airstrikes, starting Saturday at 6 p.m. ET, in order to “degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz” and “punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night,”\u00a0according to Centcom.<\/p>\n

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Saturday the country has suspended its commitments to the memorandum of understanding signed last month with the U.S.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Truce unravels<\/h2>\n

“The United States has violated and suspended all of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” he said. “We have also suspended our commitments; we are not implementing them and are busy defending our country.”<\/p>\n

When asked about Iran saying it is no longer abiding by the interim peace agreement, Trump told\u00a0a NewsNation reporter, “I couldn’t care less.”<\/p>\n

The memorandum of understanding signed by the U.S. and Iran last month continued to unravel amid the\u00a0latest round of fighting, with both sides trading targeted airstrikes in the region. The interim agreement was intended to reopen the\u00a0strategically vital\u00a0Strait of Hormuz and end the conflict.<\/p>\n

Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said that the country has “unforgettable lessons in store” for the U.S.<\/p>\n

“Now that the American enemy seeks to ignite war and endure heavier costs, it should know that the Iranian nation and the Resistance Front have\u00a0#unforgettable_lessons\u00a0in store for it,” the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting said in a message from\u00a0Khamenei on X.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Khamenei said that repeated U.S. attacks have shown that Trump’s signature on the memorandum of understanding is “utterly worthless and devoid of credibility.”<\/p>\n

The White House did not immediately respond to a CNBC request for comment on the remarks.<\/p>\n

The two additional U.S. military service member fatalities in Jordan add to previously confirmed deaths of 14 other service members killed in action since the war began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, according to MS Now.<\/p>\n

Trump, in a telephone interview with a\u00a0NewsNation reporter, called the deaths of the two service members “very sad, it’s a very sad thing.”<\/p>\n

“We hate to see it happen. It’s in service to our country,” and he reiterated his pledge that the U.S. is “never allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

‘Godspeed heroes’<\/h2>\n

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth\u00a0responded\u00a0to the deaths on X: “Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve.”<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the IRGC said it blocked four vessels as they attempted to move under U.S. protection through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

And Iran continued to target regional neighbors.<\/p>\n

Kuwait said Sunday its air defenses were facing missile and drone attacks by Iran.<\/p>\n

Despite the renewed attacks, Trump has insisted the war with Iran is going well, saying Thursday in a primetime address to the American public: “We are likewise winning big in Iran, and you will see the fruits of that labor very, very shortly.”<\/p>\n

The U.S. president had\u00a0threatened\u00a0to strike Iran’s bridges and power plants in the coming week if the country refused to return to the negotiating table.<\/p>\n

Oil prices were sharply higher on Friday due to the ongoing unrest in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
