President Donald\u00a0Trump\u00a0posted on Truth Social on Monday that\u00a0he\u00a0would nominate Keith\u00a0Sonderling, who is acting\u00a0labor\u00a0secretary, to take on the\u00a0role permanently, which would require Senate approval.<\/p>\n

“Throughout his career, Keith has proven his dedication to delivering strong results for the\u00a0Hardworking People of our Country, and I know\u00a0he\u00a0will do an incredible job in his new role,”\u00a0Trump\u00a0said in the\u00a0social media post.<\/p>\n

Sonderling\u00a0has been acting\u00a0labor\u00a0leader since April after then-Secretary\u00a0\u200cLori Chavez-DeRemer resigned amid allegations of misconduct at the\u00a0department.<\/p>\n

Sonderling has\u00a0held\u00a0several roles\u00a0in the\u00a0federal government, including in\u00a0Trump’s first term. Last year,\u00a0Trump\u00a0tapped\u00a0Sonderling\u00a0from the\u00a0U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to be the\u00a0Labor\u00a0Department’s chief operating officer.<\/p>\n

Sonderling\u00a0was confirmed for his deputy position by the\u00a0Republican-controlled Senate in a 53-46 vote.<\/p>\n
